Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) routes voice calls to a business phone using Internet networks. VoIP claims to have excellent communication, low costs and other advantages when compared to the standard landline.
Although VoIP is often a better service, it still has its pitfalls which continue to make the reliable landline attractive. The disadvantages to overcome and improvements that should be made to VoIP include:

In addition to excellent bandwidth, it is critical to have a reliable Internet connection prior to using VoIP. Since VoIP is completely reliant on the Internet, if the connection is spotty, call quality will be prevalent and dropped calls should be expected.
As previously mentioned, VoIP should have a backup source to work with the wireless connectivity. If the wireless goes down, users should continue to be able to use the phone without issue. A Bluetooth option for pairing the phone with a smartphone would be beneficial.

One the biggest issues facing VoIP is audio quality. The unit could boast every single bell and whistle available but if the basic function does not work, the product is next to useless. VoIP has seen considerable enhancements since its initial release. However, there is always room for improvement.
Therefore, backup wireless can improve the quality, being resistant to weather conditions, software and hardware improvements and an improved location within the residence or business are all fixes for the quality of the call.
To most companies, it is of the utmost importance to protect consumer data and business-related information. Although it is unlikely to be hacked, it does occur, as we’ve all heard. Unfortunately, VoIP security threats are continuing to evolve. Therefore, the highest encryption possible should be available on every product to protect clients and all involved.
7. VoIP Phone Type
The VoIP phone type as well as the spectrum frequency can play an integral role in call quality. Many believe higher frequency will decrease the amount of feedback resulting in a clearer call. This is not always the case and the selected phone should be purchased based on the connection. Frequency settings that allow users to fluctuate from high to low should be a standard feature. Don’t be afraid to ask for a 30 or 60-day trial period to make sure you don’t settle for something you don’t want.
8. 911 Emergency Reliability
Finally, if the wireless network goes down, it is impossible to make an outgoing call. Therefore, a backup to the wireless should be integrated into the phone. Also, actually dialing 911 from a VoIP will not contact an emergency operator. A different method must be implemented.
